Common questions
Is this an energy audit?
No. It is a self-check that tells you how your building compares and how deep an audit is worth commissioning. An energy audit to ISO 50002-1:2025, which replaced ISO 50002:2014, involves site inspection, measurement and costed measures. That is the work we do.
What is energy use intensity?
Energy use per square metre of conditioned floor area per year, in kWh/m². It lets you compare buildings of different sizes. Here it counts grid electricity, on-site fuels converted to kWh, and district cooling converted to its electricity equivalent, the same way the EmiratesGBC benchmarks do.
Why is there no benchmark for my building type?
Published UAE benchmarks exist for hotels, resorts, schools and malls, from the EmiratesGBC Building Efficiency Accelerator project in Dubai. We have not found a published UAE benchmark for offices, hospitals, homes or warehouses, and we would rather say so than compare you with a building in another climate.
How are the savings worked out?
As the difference between your energy use intensity and the benchmark median, and the best-performer level, multiplied by your floor area. They are priced at your own average cost per kWh, taken from the bill you enter. They show the size of the opportunity, not a guaranteed saving.
