Most energy audit reports list twenty measures and leave the client to work out which three are worth doing. An audit is only useful if it tells you where to spend first, and why.

Three levels, chosen by the decision
Audit depth should match the decision it supports. A board screening a portfolio does not need investment-grade analysis. A facilities team about to sign a retrofit contract does.
- Level 1, walk-through: obvious savings and no-cost operational fixes, plus a view on whether deeper work is worth it
- Level 2, detailed: energy balance by end use, significant energy uses identified, measures costed with savings and payback
- Level 3, investment-grade: measured data and engineering analysis strong enough to support a capital decision or an energy performance contract
Audits are carried out to EN 16247 or ISO 50002, whichever your regulator, lender or group policy names. Where savings will later be verified, we plan for measurement and verification under IPMVP from the start, so the baseline still holds up when it comes to proving the savings.
In the Gulf, start with cooling
In most Gulf buildings cooling is the largest single electricity load, and the one with the widest gap between design and actual performance. An energy audit here that does not measure the chiller plant properly has missed the main finding. Where cooling dominates, we pair the energy audit with a dedicated chiller and district cooling audit.
- Cooling: chiller plant, pumps, cooling towers, air handling and setpoints
- Lighting and controls: schedules, occupancy, and building management system logic that has drifted since commissioning
- Process and compressed air: leaks, pressure settings, motors and drives on industrial sites

What is an energy audit?
A structured review of how a site uses energy, which identifies where it is wasted and what it would cost to fix. A proper audit establishes a baseline from metered data, finds the significant energy uses, and gives a set of improvement measures, each with estimated savings, cost and payback. EN 16247 and ISO 50002 are the two international standards that define what an energy audit must contain.
What is the difference between EN 16247 and ISO 50002?
Both set requirements for carrying out an energy audit and they cover much the same ground. EN 16247 is the European series: part 1 sets general requirements, parts 2, 3 and 4 cover buildings, processes and transport, and part 5 covers the competence of energy auditors. ISO 50002 is the international standard, written to sit alongside ISO 50001. We work to whichever one your regulator, lender or group policy specifies.
What are Level 1, 2 and 3 energy audits?
The levels come from ASHRAE's procedures for commercial building energy audits and describe depth. Level 1 is a walk-through that finds obvious savings and screens whether deeper work is worthwhile. Level 2 is a detailed survey with an energy balance and costed measures. Level 3 is an investment-grade audit, with enough measurement and engineering analysis to support a capital decision or an energy performance contract.
How long does an energy audit take?
A walk-through of a single building can be done in a few days. A detailed audit of a large building or industrial site usually takes several weeks, most of it spent on data collection and short-term metering rather than on the site visit itself. The biggest driver is how much of the site is sub-metered. Where it is not, temporary logging has to cover a representative operating period before the analysis means anything.
